Police are sharing more information on Artem Chigvintsev's legal case.
The Dancing With the Stars alum—who married Nikki Garcia in 2022—was arrested on Aug. 29 in Yountville, Calif., for domestic violence after police received a 911 call before 10 a.m., Napa County Sheriff’s public information officer Henry Wofford told E! News.
Chigvintsev, 42, was taken to the Napa County Department of Correction and was released on a bail of $25,000 after 2 p.m., according to police.
"When someone is charged with felony domestic violence, usually this means there is a visible injury or credible eye witness," Wofford said in a statement to E! News. "Our deputies felt comfortable arresting him on felony domestic violence charges."
However, some details of the case are not being shared due to laws protecting the privacy of victims of domestic violence, according to the officer. Police are therefore not releasing the name, gender and age of the victim, and are not disclosing the person's relationship to Chigvintsev.
Additionally, Wofford told NBC News that authorities are not revealing the location of the alleged incident due to privacy requested by victim.
"Some victims may not feel comfortable sharing all details at time the suspect is arrested," Wofford told E!. "Some victims feel embarrassed, threatened, or fear the incident may impact their family. We have to give victims adequate time and support, which help them realize we are here to help."
Chigvintsev—who will not return for season 33 of Dancing With the Stars—was charged under California Penal Code 273.5(a), relating to injuring a spouse or cohabitant, according to the records viewed by E! News.
The dancer has not spoken out publicly on his arrest. E! News has reached out to reps for Garcia and Chigvintsev for comment on the case but has not heard back.
Three days prior to the alleged incident, Chigvintsev shared a social media tribute to Garcia to mark their second wedding anniversary.
"Happy anniversary my love," the Strictly Come Dancing star—who shares 4-year-old son Matteo with Garcia—wrote on Instagram Aug. 26. "Can’t see my life with out you. You are my everything."
(E! and NBC News are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
